Ohio AAA Blue Jackets Facts, Figures & Highlights

  • Ohio AAA Blue Jackets support USA Hockey’s ADM Model and are developmental driven.

 

  • The Ohio AAA Blue Jackets have 8 teams playing at the Tier 1 AAA levelin the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League (formally MWEHL): Squirt Major, two Pee Wee Teams (Major & Minor), two Bantam teams (Major & Minor), two Midget teams (Major & Minor) plus a U14 Girls team.

 

  • 2012-13 Fees – Squirts = $2900, Pee Wees = $3600, Bantam = $3900, Midgets = $4700.  Includes all practice, game, skill weekend ice, tournaments, referees, administration, team gloves, bag, tracksuits, game and practice socks, practice jersey.  Also includes goaltending coach, off-ice training for Midgets and Bantams and Power Skating for Squirts and Pee Wees. Fee does not include game jerseys, pant shell or share of coach travel.

 

  • Pee Wee and Bantam Teams average 97 hours of regular season practice ice per season (84.5 hours full

ice practice with 12.5 hrs shared for skill weekends).  Squirts have 74 hours of full ice practice this season.

 

  • Total (Squirt, PW & Bantam) fees average out to be $20-$21 per hour of ice (practice, skill weekends & games).
  • Ohio AAA Blue Jackets was started in 2004 with just the U18 team. The U16 and Bantam Majors were added in 2005 with the Bantam Minor, the two Pee Wee Teams in 2006, Squirt Major in 2011 and U14 Girls in 2012.

 

  • Since 2008, captured 3 Tier 1 Mid Am Regional Championships, 7 Regional Finalist Appearances, 4 Regional Semi-Finalist Appearance, and 3 trips to the USA Hockey National Tournament (1997’s in 2010, 2012 and U16 in 2009).

 

  • Pee Wee Majors represent AAA Blue Jackets, Columbus Blue Jackets, CCYHA and CAHA at the Quebec Pee Wee International Tournament. 1997’s Semi Finalist in 2010.

 

  • Since 2005, 58% of U18 graduates move on to Junior hockey with 20% of the graduates playing NCAA Hockey (Div. 1 & Div. 3).

 

  • Twelve current or former players: Trent Vogelhuber (Miami Univ.), Clark MacLean (Niagara Univ.), Clark Cristofoli (OSU), Connor Murphy (Miami Univ.), Sean Kuraly (Miami University), Jeff Michael (OSU), Bryce Johnson (St. Cloud St.), Justin Taber (Queens Univ. CIAU), Greg Lewis (Clarkson Univ.), Jordy DiGiando (Colorado College), Kiefer Sherwood (Miami Univ.) and Connor McDonald (Bowling Green) are playing or committed to play Div. 1 College Hockey

 

  • Eleven former players playing Div. 3 College Hockey with numerous playing Div. 1 Club College Hockey.

 

  • In 2011, the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets had players selected in the first rounds of all 3 major drafts – NHL, OHL and USHL.

 

  • Three players (Connor Murphy, Sean Kuraly & Kiefer Sherwood) have played for the United States National Team Development Program (USNTSP) in Ann Arbor, MI. Kuraly recently lead the World Jr. A Challenge in scoring.

 

  • One former player (Trent Vogelhuber) was Drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 7th Round in 2007.

 

  • Three former players have been drafted into the NHL – Connor Murphy (2011, 1st round Phoenix Coyotes), Sean Kuraly (2011, 5th round San Jose Sharks), Trent Vogelhuber (2007, 7th round Columbus Blue Jackets).

 

  • 8 players selected to the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), 13 players selected to the United States Hockey League (USHL) Entry and Futures Drafts, Over 25 players tendered or drafted to the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

 

  • Numerous Ohio AAA Blue Jackets players advancing to represent Mid Am at the USA Hockey National and Developmental Camps.

 

  • All Head Coaches are Level 4 certified.  All have junior, college and or professional experience as a player and/or coach.
